If a patient receives post-arrest cooling (targeted temperature management, TTM), code it. It doesn't matter for how long the cooling was applied or whether the Cardiac Arrest Cooling Protocol was followed. Hypothermia is not always needed. The idea is to keep the patient's temperature from going high. Usual maintenance temp is 36 degrees.
*Discussion Occasionally the patient on TTM is not cooled at all because their temperature remains low, they may even be warmed to keep the temperature at 36 degrees.  Do we still use the whole body cooling in CCI or should we use warming in these cases?--LKolesar 14:31, 2018 October 29 (CDT)

For patients with this, also code BRR.

** Allan confirmed that Bojan doesn't require special treatment for this one, so we will be able to remove the "no cooling" entry and its cross check; we still want the check where you can;t have cooling unless there is an arrest. This means we can move this code over to CCI.  }}

CCI Picklist
Procedure: Targeted Temperature Management (TTM)
CCI Picklist code: 1.ZX.06
CCI Collection Mode: CCI collect first
Start Date:
Stop Date:

This procedure is a part of CCI Collection via CCI Picklist.

Additional Info

 • This could include any combination of whole body warming or whole body cooling. We are not coding those except as part of TTM, which we are only tracking in the setting of post-Cardiac arrest.
 • If a patient receives post-arrest cooling or warming (targeted temperature management, TTM), code it. It doesn't matter for how long the cooling was applied or whether the Cardiac Arrest Cooling Protocol was followed. Usual maintenance temp is 36 degrees.
