• This code is for diagnostic paracentesis only -- and this requires use of a needle, through the abdominal wall, with removal of peritoneal fluid.
• For therapeutic paracentesis you construct it from components as
  • (T) Abdominal, Pelvic or Peritoneal Cavity, NOS
  • Drainage, Evacuation
• For peritoneal fluid removed from an existing conduit (e.g. a PD catheter) for diagnostic purposes (e.g. fluid for C&S or cytology) then combine: (D) Abdominal, Pelvic or Peritoneal Cavity, NOS, with Biopsy (non-endoscopic)
