*Yes, this rule only applies to Admit procedures that is why it is put in the admit procedure article. We need to have all acquired tests as we are going to be using this instead of the old count method to get the lab counts. Acquired procedures put in CCI are very important in the new way of coding because we no longer put procedures with the diagnostic codes.--[[User:LKolesar|LKolesar]] 11:05, 2018 August 31 (CDT) (Allison, please delete your question if you feel it is sufficiently answered). | |||

This page explains when a CCI Procedure that is part of CCI Collection would be coded with Px Type Admit. The other option for type is Acquired Procedure.
Collection Instructions
- Code a procedure as Px_Type admit if it was:
- (a) Performed within 24 hrs BEFORE the Arrive DtTm AND
- (b) Was causally related to the admission -- this is a judgement call, see the examples below
- Note: This is ONLY procedures that are CAUSAL, not just used to make the diagnosis. For example, a CXR would not cause a pneumonia so it would not be included here. If a scope was done in the previous 24 hours and a perforation occurs from this procedure, then you would include the scope if the pt came to the ICU with a perforation.--LKolesar 13:10, 2018 August 28 (CDT)
It won't always be so clear if a procedure is related to the admission, and you may have to use your judgement.

Is this "causally related" only applies to admit procedure? For acquired procedures, if patient was admitted with pneumonia, and they do follow up CXR, do we code that CXR as acquired or no? --Malcudia 10:43, 2018 August 31 (CDT) |
- Yes, this rule only applies to Admit procedures that is why it is put in the admit procedure article. We need to have all acquired tests as we are going to be using this instead of the old count method to get the lab counts. Moved patients
A procedure might be coded as an acquired on one ward and an admit on the next - the same as above applies.

Why within 24 hrs?
This was an arbitrary decision because we needed a cut-off.
