- In ICD10, code patients who missed their dialysis tx and are admitted to ICU for urgent HD in the following way:
- Chronic kidney disease (end-stage kidney disease, ESRD), Stage 5 in comorbs.
- Renal dialysis care, including dialysis itself in comorbs.
- Hemodialysis (intermittent) from CCI picklist, as acquired, if they were dialyzed in your unit.
- Medical noncompliance in admit codes.
- Any other diagnosis that resulted in the ICU admission, in admit codes. Ex. Hyperkalemia, CHF, etc.
- If they are merely borrowing the ICU space to dialyze a patient, they should not be entered into our database.
- If the patient is admitted under the care of the ICU Attending, then they should be entered into our database as an ICU admission.
- This is what the ICU program has advised.--TOstryzniuk 14:54, 27 April 2011 (CDT)
- Don't use this code for patients admitted for acute problem.Code them as whatever the reason they came.ie CHF,Hyperkalemia etc.
