FiO2 is the fraction of inspired oxygen in a gas mixture. [1]

The FiO2's listed here are estimates only for the collection of arterial blood gas (ABG's) data for the APACHE II scoring purposes.

  • The actual FiO2 that a patient gets varies due to a number of factors that are not accounted for in these estimates.

Relevance

The FiO2 is used to calculate the AaDO2 which is a component of the APACHE score as follows:

for FiO2 >= 50 %,
AaDO2 = ((FiO2 * 713) - PO2) - Serum CO2
