GI Scopes

Upper GI scopes should be coded as

• the deepest that was reached of the following
  • (T) Esophagus/(D) Esophagus
  • (T) Stomach, Pylorus/(D) Stomach or Pylorus
  • (T) Small Intestine/(D) Small Intestine
• plus the most invasive of the following that happened
  • Inspection, Exploration (endoscopic)/Inspection, Exploration (non-endoscopic)
  • Biopsy (endoscopic)/Biopsy (non-endoscopic)

This is according to the gospel of CCI Collection#Related Imaging, Diagnostic and Therapeutic procedures performed at the same time

Template:Discussion Is this to say that if you have a scope in which they clipped or banded, you would only enter the "body part" (T), and what was done "control of bleeding"? Or would we do a second entry for this procedure to further explain that a scope was done as "body part" (D), and "exploration (endoscopic)"? Should we also be coding every repeat GI scope that is done during the admission, or is this one of the CCI's that we are only to collect once?
