Additional Info
There is no set alcohol level at which to code a poisoning.
This is a judgment call per Dr Garland. Levels alone do not define toxicity, especially if a patient has a chronic alcohol problem. Collectors should also look at the clinical signs and symptoms that the patient displays.
Poisoning by non-pharmaceuticals codes
- This information pertains all the following codes:
- These are not pharmaceutical agents, and with the exception of Alcohol (ethanol), poisoning and Cocaine, overdose/toxicity, they are all exclusively poisons (for drugs see Drug or biological substance/agent NOS, overdose/toxicity)
- Do not confuse this group of codes with Template:ICD10 Guideline adverse effect or Template:ICD10 Guideline overdose
- To qualify here, there must be a threat to life, or limb, or to functioning for one or more organs.
- Note: The lack of pharmaceutical use for all the substances in this category is the reason why these codes have no counterparts for overdoses (with the excepts listed above), adverse events, etc.
See ICD10 Guideline for drugs and substances for more info on coding substance related ICD10 diagnoses.
