Cognos2 Service Starter is used as part of Using Cognos2 to keep track of patients to list the patient services that came in on the Cognos EPR Report and facilitate getting new records started, or update existing records with new service info. It's part of Cognos2 can be opened with the "CSS" button on the Main Form (CCMDB.accdb).

Cognos2 Service Starter can be opened with the "CSS" button on the Main Form .

Use this to figure out which service records in Cognos don't have an entry on your laptop yet, and to start an entry for it. Lines with a white plus don't have a profile for this pt on this laptop yet. Lines with a pink plus already have a record, but may need a new one or a new Service tmp entry.

Use the "exclude" button to remove a single service/time combination; if the same pt shows up again for the same service with a different time, a new line will show.

Use the "View exclusions" button to see lines that have been excluded; this is by hospital MRN so search/filter with that.

Use the O and + buttons similar to how they are used in Cognos Admitter. Meanings of colours are at the bottom of the screen. The buttons will open the record to the Patient Viewer Tab Cognos ADT2, where other service or unit entries for that record can then be entered.

Why does this not contain unit info?

  1. adding unit info would quickly get us back to the same problem that was Cognos Admitter: each pt can have multiple services and multiple units and there is no good way to list this info without it getting cluttered
  2. More importantly: is unit info actually needed at the time of deciding to start a record? This form is only meant to make you aware that you need to deal with a new pt; either by entering them (in which case the unit data will become available in Patient Viewer Tab Cognos ADT2), or by excluding them.
    1. There were concerns about entering a patient who is in ER under one of our services but has not yet either been discharged (old concept EMIP) or been moved to a unit (regular inpatient). Apparently some people don't enter these until they resolve to either EMIP or in-patient. There really is no reason to wait for this, since data for both would be entered the same: minimal data set now, everything else later.

Which lines in CSS require action

As of the version rolled out 2020-12-31 and future, all lines in CSS require action. Initially records stayed on this list, but now they will come off the list once their service entry is dealt with. To get a record off the CSS list, either enter the service entry with the exact dttm, or exclude it. Once you are done entering records for the day, CSS should be empty.

  • If there is more than one profile for a patient, we have not yet been able to list only the one with the applicable admission range. That is surprisingly hard to do without also losing service entries for which there is no associated record. Tina plans to look into this some more, for now eyeball the service time against the profile start dttm and the dispo dttm, which are in the small fields underneath the service time.

W+ toggle

The "W+" toggle button filters to only records with a white plus, ie no entries on laptop for that pt yet. Now that records that are dealt with will come off the list, this button should no longer be very useful.

Cognos Import Button

There is a button in the top right corner of CSS that allows anyone who has the Cognos data email to import it. There is no process for this yet, it's just a contingency tool for now.
