We use Cognos EPR Report data as part of Using Cognos2 to keep track of patients. This page gives explains the time limits of the Cognos EPR Report.

Limit at the old end of the data: only the last 40 days data

Cognos dump provides the 40 previous days data and only includes data up to the previous midnight. This was an arbitrary limit we set when we first worked on this report because back then, we always at least had patients registered within 2 weeks.

Limits at the new end of the data

Data after midnight is excluded

The dump only goes to about midnight the previous day. This means that short stay patients that were admitted after that and already discharged the next day can't be captured quickly while the chart is still available on ward/unit; this means the chart access becomes a medical record request and data that could have been entered immediately under the old process now gets delayed, possibly by weeks.

There is nothing we can do about the limit at the new end, it's the nature of how Cognos is set up.

Corrections may arrive with a delay

Sometimes data is initially entered wrong and then corrected. And sometimes, there is a dump with that incorrect data, and then maybe several days later, a dump that has changed, corrected data. This may result in a patient initially not showing up in a listing, but then showing up a few days later. It might also result in e.g. entering a unit entry, and then a few days later a conflicting entry shows up as either location or date/time are corrected. These will be caught by our various Cognos listings because those listings will suddenly no longer find a match. See also Patient record or move shows in Cognos but not in EPR.
