CCI component 2 codes - what was done
Procedure: Control of Bleeding
CCI 2 code: 13
CCI Collection Mode: CCI collect each

This procedure is a part of CCI Collection. This is one of the CCI component 2 codes - what was done.

Additional Info

  • Use ONLY this code among the "what was done" part of CCI when constructing a procedure from components that is to control bleeding
    • Thus, includes doing so by ANY/ALL methods -- e.g. surgically, embolization, banding (e.g. of varices), etc.
    • So, use this code, not any of the other CCI components for "what was done" -- e.g. Occlusion or Repair
    • If not actively bleeding see Occlusion or Repair
  • This identifies efforts to control bleeding, not remove or evacuate blood or a hematoma or clot.
  • To create a CCI code to indicate procedure to control bleeding from components -- combine this code PLUS the "body part" code -- for control of bleeding esophageal varices combine it with (T) Esophagus

Does this code include continuous bladder irrigation for hematuria/bleeding from bladder? This involves a three way foley and foleys are not coded so seeking clarification whether this would be combined with bladder (T) or not coded at all? Thanks! Pamela Piche 15:26, 2022 April 21 (CDT)
