This page documents the data definitions used in the Overstay2 scoring models, as defined during re-analysis and generation of Overstay2 model and implemented in Overstay2 module. See Overstay2 Overview for additional context.

    • There are other procedures that may contribute to DC delay, but are not necessarily implantation of internal device, things such as TIPS (picklist), ERCP (picklist), permanent pacemaker (picklist) tunneled line insertion, CVC (picklist) but it is code only first so it may not be captured if they had a temp line that was coded as their first CVC, I'm sure there are more that I can't think of right now Lisa Kaita 08:26, 13 July 2025 (CDT)
      • OK, that is an interesting additional concept: people waiting for a procedure who might otherwise be ready for discharge. I'll break that out into #Procedure waits that cause discharge delays. I was looking for something different with this, though: many community settings have criteria that exclude people who require extra work/medical expertise, or who increase risk; so, people who have had a procedure that leaves them with a device have fewer discharge options, leading to delays. This is what I was trying to capture with this element. What is your take on this element with that lens? Let me know if better to meet. Ttenbergen 16:56, 18 July 2025 (CDT)

Procedure waits that cause discharge delays

There are procedures that may contribute to DC delay due to waits for the procedure itself. For example:

  • Keeping in mind that the Overstay2 model only considers Admit Diagnoses and Comorbid Diagnoses, this might not be a signal that is available. Are there diagnoses that make it especially likely that one of those will be the chosen therapy? Those might be a signal available at admission. However, also keep in mind that this model tests not for LOS, but for Discharge Delay, so it would only catch patients who have been cleared for discharge, which those waiting for a procedure would probably not be, right? But: does this general line of inquiry make anyone think of similar things that we might be able to capture? Ttenbergen 16:56, 18 July 2025 (CDT)

post Overstay2 scoring model for Grace Hospital candidates

We realized after finalizing the Overstay2 scoring model for Grace Hospital that some candidate codes would be better if their definition was tweaked.
