Not currently being collected

We keep discussing whether EMIP like patients should be collected in Critical Care. Consensus is that they are rare, but for consistency it would be good if we caught them. At task meeting 2020 Jan 29, reviewed. Question: Is this easy to get from EPR? Trish reviewed with p:Lisa kaita and apparently fairly easy to catch.

  • Currently any ECIP are documented in CCMDB TMP project Boarding Loc.

Emergency Critical Care InPatient.

We keep discussing whether EMIP like patients should be collected in Critical Care. Consensus is that they are rare, but for consistency it would be good if we caught them. We are seeing increasing occurring at the Grace.

This was on the task team's list for a while but there was no appetite to start doing this.

Email from Trish 2016-11-10:

Main office should take this to TASK meeting. ICU patient entire LOS in ER before being sent to another ICU at another site or to another Physician Service.
I know we are all keen are having data to see what patient flow is and if there are ICU patient under ICU attending but they stay in ER before they go to another ICU because not bed in own ICU or other reasons, then should we capture these? Really not physically in own ICU, but is in ER occupying bed under an ICU attending?
Now that we have the ERP Reports, we can find things like this however, we need to discuss if value to ICU database to include. I know everyone is interested in patient flow and I was previously told that there is not that much delay when ICU attending accept patient, then when they are transferred to ICU. But there are a number we have seeing that sit it ER under ICU attending in one center then go from that ER to another site ICU.

How to you pick out ECIP in EPR Reports

EPR reports:

Admission Register

  • choose facility
  • choose dates needed
  • choose ER as unit
  • will list all inpatient clients in ER however, you can see which ones are under Critical Care Service
  • see below to cross reference which patients under critical care were discharged or transferred to another location, within your hospital, other than ICU
  • this list will also show you patients that are currently admitted in the ER under critical care service (if you are running a report with the most current date/time)

Discharge Register

  • choose facility
  • choose dates needed
  • choose ER as unit
  • choose attending providers "all"
  • will list all inpatients, look for those patients under critical care service, that were discharged to another facility or expired

Transfer Register

  • choose facility
  • choose dates needed
  • choose ER as unit
  • choose "from location" under "unit filters on"
  • choose "between unit transfers only" under "transfer type"
  • will list all inpatients, look for those patients under critical care service, that went to a location other than ICU
