- Admit Diagnosis: For example if someone has a stricture of their colostomy, combine either Intestinal adhesion(s) with obstruction or Intestinal obstruction, NOS whichever is appropriate and combine with Ileostomy or colostomy, has one. Also code as an admit diagnosis if the ileostomy or colostomy was created during this episode of care, prior to transfer to current location.
- Comorbid Diagnosis: Do not code Ileostomy or colostomy, has one as a comorb unless they had the ostomy prior to this episode of care
- Acquired Diagnosis: Ileostomy or colostomy, has one is used as an acquired diagnosis if the patient undergoes this procedure after they are accepted to an ICU or medicine service.
