Additional Info
- This code merely indicates that an overdose has occurred, NOT to be confused with Insulin or antidiabetic drug, adverse effect
- As appropriate, combine it with the manifestations of the overdose, e.g. Diabetic coma OR Hypoglycemia OR Acidosis, NOS (to cover lactic acidosis as can occur with a metformin overdose)
Alternate ICD10s to consider coding instead or in addition
- Insulin or antidiabetic drug, adverse effect -- but this would only be coded in a diabetic taking such drugs. In a non-diabetic it would have to be either a poisoning (or a homicide attempt).
Candidate Combined ICD10 codes
- Also code cause -- e.g. Suicide attempt (intentional self-harm)
