- Mural thrombi are thrombi that adhere to the wall of a blood vessel. They occur on large vessels such as the aorta
- Intracardiac thrombi can result in severe morbidity or even death from embolic events. Examples include atrial fibrillation and mitral stenosis where atrial thrombi predominate.
