Paneling
Paneling is the process of getting permission to send a patient to PCH (roughly speaking).
The concept is relevant because the process causes delays in discharging patients who are otherwise medically ready for discharge (e.g. have a Transfer Ready DtTm).
We don't collect paneling directly, but we do collect some adjacent points we have used to tag patients being paneled in our data.
Our definition
- Pre acute living situation.loc_type != PCH S pre acute living situation table and Dispo.S dispo.loc type = "PCH"
- Awaiting/delayed transfer to long-term care/PCH inside or outside of Winnipeg (Z75.4) in any Dx Type
Data available for possible different definitions
- Pre acute living situation.loc_type != PCH
- could include or exclude the smaller number of other options
- S pre acute living situation table and Dispo.S dispo.loc type = "PCH"
- currently includes things like Selkirk Mental Health Centre and is sometimes ambiguous for sites that have both PCH and Chronic Health Facility components
- Awaiting/delayed transfer to long-term care/PCH inside or outside of Winnipeg in any Dx Type
- Service tmp entry like HSC and GRA ALC Medicine Service with the words "Paneling" in it
- not clear what this means
- generally ("GH Medicine / Panel in Process", "<service> / Panel Appr PCH", "<service> / Panel Appr CC" or "<service> / Panel Appr Other")
- see S Cognos Services table)
- appears to be used only at HSC and GRA, not at STB
- Previous Location field also has S dispo.loc type but would usually be entered as the ER that admits the patient, so not useful
