Coding instructions
*Post COVID-19 condition is used for complications or sequelae of COVID-19 (SARS-COV-2) that may have been caused by the acute infection, but manifest or continue after the active infection is gone.
**Example:  To code "COVID-19–related multisystem inflammatory syndrome" link Post COVID-19 condition to Disorder of the immune system, NOS. If we see many more of these in the future, we will consider adopting the specific code for it U07.3
**Example: To code pulmonary fibrosis post-COVID19, combine Post COVID-19 condition with Interstitial lung disease, NOS
* Some physicians are (confusingly) writing things like "post-COVID pneumonia" or "post-COVID pneumonitis" to indicate ongoing, noninfectious pulmonary sequelae after the active COVID infection itself is gone.  If indeed it is believed that the COVID infection has run its course and there is no ongoing active COVID infection, here's how to code such ongoing post-COVID problems:
**Code Post COVID-19 condition + one of more of the following, as appropriate:
***Lung, diagnostic imaging, abnormal
***Disorder of lung, NOS
***Interstitial lung disease, NOS
***ARDS (noncardiogenic pulmonary edema)
***Bronchiolitis obliterans organizing pneumonia (BOOP, cryptogenic organizing pneumonia (COP))
***Respiratory failure (insufficiency) NOS, acute
***Respiratory failure (insufficiency), chronic
***Hypoxemia
(To use Respiratory Insufficiency acute vs Chronic use your best clinical judgement to determine this)

ICD10 Guideline COVID

Coding COVID related diagnoses is complicated, and they are of special interest in our reporting, so we need to get these right. See ICD10 Guideline COVID.
