* In this file I enter blood type and pre-CBP (pre coronary bypass) RV and LV function. You will find the TEE report in the operation section of the patient chart, usually at the back.
TEE results can be found in several places:

We are collecting blood type and cardiac function on STB CICU patients for analysis of outcomes, research, quality assurance. The project name stands for ABO blood types, and TEE for Trans Esophageal Echocardiogram.

Collection Instructions

  • Project A_T blood type
  • Blood type would be collected for all patients in CICU except those admitted under a different service .... if there is a blood type in chart (which there would be), need to collect it.There may not be a blood group for patients who are Jehovah's Witnesses; no group & hold will be sent as no blood products will be administered

    • this information is found under the red Blood Products tab on the Red Cross G&M results the hard chart or right after the gold pages of the ABG records on the Health Records chart.
  • Project A_T LV fraction (LV ejection fraction) before Cardiopulmonary bypass (should be from intra-op TEE (Transesophageal echocardiogram) if available, or other pre-op echo if not ):
    • <20%
    • 20-29%
    • 30-49%
    • 50% or greater
    • z not available (starts with z to sort to end)
  • Project A_T function (Right ventricular) before Cardiopulmonary bypass (should be from intra-op TEE (Transesophageal echocardiogram) if available, or other pre-op echo if not ):
    • If the documentation says mild-moderate or moderate to severe, then coding would be towards the worse value-eg. Mild-moderate would be recorded as moderate and moderate-severe would be recorded as severe.
    • Values are:
      • Normal
      • Mildy depressed
      • Moderately depressed
      • Severely depressed
      • z not available (starts with z to sort to end)
    • checkbox “pre-op echo” – check the box if a result of a pre-op echo was used; leave unchecked if intra-op TEE

Finding results

TEE results can be found in several places:

  • 1)on the physician progress/medicine notes post op under TEE which is described in the operative information
  • 2)at the back of the hard chart under the OR tab, there is sometimes a printout of the colour chart and printed details of the interpretation
  • 3)on the XCelera computer at the ICCS nursing station Xcelera
  • 4) now on EPR under DI tab, echocardiograpy US Cardiac Intraoperative TEE

Using Xcelera

  • password can be found in the front of STB_CICU data collection binder or ask the other collectors in the office.
  • locate small black box on desk on right side of computer at STB in CICU.
  • 2 settings=2 gray buttons; the left one is for Xrays & the right one is for Xcelera
  • Make sure the light by the Xcelera mode is on by pushing the right hand gray button
  • Log on to the computer using the user name Asper and the password found in the ICCS data collector binder
  • doubleclick on the Xcelera icon at the bottom left
    • The TEE reports will come up.
  • Scroll to the one you want and doubleclick to bring it up.

Collection parameters

  • Collected only at STB CICU
  • Start Date: 2013-01-28
  • End Date: planned as continuous collection without an end date

Data Use

Information will be provided by our statistician to physicians for further analysis.
