Province field

The Province field records the province that the patient is registered with health care. If the patient is not eligible for health care, enter the province that they reside in.

The field draws its options from the S_Provinces table on the PDA and in the CCMDB.mdb.

Choose the value for the "Province" field from the dropdown lists in Access. The provincial abbreviations are the same as for mailing. In addition to the provinces you have the following options:

• US United States
• CF Canadian Forces
• NK Not Known / Not available
• OS Outside of North America

Should we have a CF entry? How is it used?

All province entries except CF are geographical and administrative. CF is only administrative. If we are interested in flagging patients who live in a province but are not insured by that province we would also need to track First Nations, RCMP and resident aliens like visa students. I don't think we care to break out the rest, so for consistency the "CF" province entry should be eliminated.

      • Looking into it now. Have a couple in Med from 2012. Since some pts from HSC, Pagasa will look up in Reflections if they do have MB PHIN. There are 26 patients in entire ICU & Med database that have the code CF. One coded and CFM. Never used for anything. -Trish Ostryzniuk 13:34, 2013 February 11 (EST)
        • Audit: Changed 7 files Province's from CF to MB. Found one RCMP codes as CF at STB. Updated 5 profiles in database with a PHIN that we found using Reflections. Reviewed Data crosschecked with MB Health showed no match on any of the identifiers for any of these clients. HSC has access to MB Health data so MR likely updated info on Reflections at some point much later. Not sure how often they check to fill in missing information either. We do have some MB health matches that we don't see as being updated in HSC Reflections.
          • Leaves us with 18 Prov still codes as CF. Will get the rest of audit finding from Pagasa tommorrow.-Trish Ostryzniuk 20:27, 2013 February 11 (EST)

Precedence of CF over residence province

  • Usually flagging a patient as a member of the CF is to ensure billing is properly handled. I wouldn't have thought it matters to CCMDB who's paying the bill--they are patient in a WRHA hospital receiving care and for which data should be collected.     • I don't think you meant to include TISS here. I believe we tagged patients as CF because they did not a MB health number, or it was some long number and so when we sent for crosschecking to MB Health and they find no match, we have a reason why no match was found. Julie might remember since she has taken over the crosschecking with MB Health. Julie also may have some idea's on this based on what she or Pagasa see coming back from MB health. -Trish Ostryzniuk 19:17, 2012 November 13 (EST)

CF family members not coded as CF

Medical coverage for CF dependents is covered by the province in which they live. They do not receive any healthcare services from the CF.
