There was a question whether a pt could have several stages during acquired. This is not the case. AG: While one could have a lower level as a comorbid, and be admitted with what is finally decided to be an advancement of CRF (so that an admit dx is a higher level), in many cases what you'll have is some degree of CRF + an AKI on top of it.  It's important to distinguish between these.

{{DT|pt could have several stages during acquired, right? Is that how we would want to code deterioration?
*AG REPLY -- not really.  While one could have a lower level as a comorbid, and be admitted with what is finally decided to be an advancement of CRF (so that an admit dx is a higher level), in many cases what you'll have is some degree of CRF + an AKI on top of it.  It's important to distinguish between these.

This is almost about Concept:Chronic Kidney Disease, but because of the ambiguous Kidney, renal failure/insufficiency/uremia, unspecified as acute or chronic the concept can not be used to define this.
