Do not use for serotonin syndrome unless due to poisoning

We don't have a code for Serotonin Syndrome.

Do not use the TCA (Tricyclic) Poisoningcode for Serotonin Syndrome indiscriminately because it can have other causes and symptoms. If TCA (Tricyclic) Poisoning is a factor in a case of Serotonin Syndrome, of course code it.

Keeping Tricyclic code for now

  • Tricyclic antidepressants have been mostly replaced by newer antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (NRIs). They occasionally use tricyclics if other meds are not working.
