This template is used to make sure instructions are consistent in in the hernia type diagnoses:

• Hiatus (diaphragmatic) hernia
• Inguinal hernia
• Abdominal hernia, NOS

and the hernia complication diagnoses:

• Abdominal hernia, with obstruction, incarceration or strangulation
• Abdominal hernia, with gangrene

We have the following ICD10 codes for different types of abdominal Hernias:

• Hiatus (diaphragmatic) hernia
• Inguinal hernia
• Abdominal hernia, NOS

and their potential complications:

• Abdominal hernia, with obstruction, incarceration or strangulation
• Abdominal hernia, with gangrene

A complication should be coded whenever it happens, but complication codes should only ever be coded as combined ICD10 codes with a hernia type.
