This template addresses the discontinuation of some old rules not to code certain things now that we collect ICD10.

Code even if not treated

  • As a general rule we should code everything that's codable if believed to be present. This INCLUDES entities believed present that are not being treated.
    • The issue really boils down to whether a potential diagnosis is REAL or not.
    • A good example is whether asymptomatic bacteruria is a real bladder infection vs. just colonization.
    • In ALL these situations, it will require clinical judgement to figure out if the entity is real or not -- and if it is, it should be coded.
