Collection instructions:

• Diagnoses:
  • Comorbid Diagnosis of Heart assist device, has one
  • paired with reason for LVAD e.g. any of the cardiomyopathy codes, heart failure, NOS
• CCI as appropriate
  • CCI1 code: (T) Cardiac ventricle
  • CCI2 code: Implantation of Internal Device

Background:

• is used temporarily to assist in cardiogenic shock
• is used as a bridge to cardiac transplant
• can be implanted in the left or right ventricle, or in both ventricles
• most commonly used at STB is the Heartmate III
