Additional Info
- Use this code for a fracture of any vertebrae that is a consequence of being weakened by osteoporosis.
- It includes, but is not limited to, so-called compression fracture or wedge fracture if due to osteoporosis (use Vertebra, nontraumatic fracture NOS or Vertebra, pathologic fracture due to neoplastic disease for other causes).
- Having said that, most vertebral compression/wedge fractures ARE due to osteoporosis.
Fractures
For an comprehensive overview, and additional information on coding fractures in ICD10, see Coding fractures in ICD10.
