Hypovolemic shock - it is a state of rapid fluid loss resulting in inadequate circulating blood volume and subsequent inadequate perfusion to organs.
== use of subdiagnosis "other" (136-90)==

The use of this sub-diagnosis was discussed at the Task meeting December 5,2012.It was decided that even though this category is used for bleeding problems, we will also use 136-90 for severe shock related to non hemorrhagic hypovolemia. Thanks again to everyone who participated in answering the question I had previously posted on wiki.[[User:GHall|GHall]] 17:17, 2012 December 5 (EST)
136-90 This code shouldn't be used for simple dehydration without shock. However it can be used for '''severe dehydration''' resulting in a '''shock state.'''

*what have collectors been doing in past for shock due to dehyration?  This category was only meant to be for hypovolemia due to bleeding for different reasons as listed.  139-90 other, is other bleeding causing hypovolemia.  I have asked Dr. Garland for further opinion on this.  I am not sure the task group really wants to  "mix" shock due to dehydration from not drinking with shock due to hyovolemia from bleeds.[[User:TOstryzniuk|Trish Ostryzniuk]] 16:39, 2012 October 19 (CDT)
** at the meeting we also talked about dehydration from burns. If we don't code it here, then how should it be coded? I think that was what brought the question forward in the first place... Ttenbergen 17:23, 2012 October 19 (CDT)
