==Legacy - STB_5B: Serial number share plan==
Elaine has been assigned to E6&5B and Deb to E5. Workload distribution plan: Deb will pick up the FIRST THREE NEW admissions to 5B every month. In the past there has been confusing rules as to which patients Debbie picks up. There is a new rule (effective 11-Aug-14) that will simplify the issue so that anyone doing vacation or sick relief can sort it out. The new rule is: Debbie picks up the first three patients that arrive on 5b from 00:00 hrs, on the first day of the month. It does not matter if they don’t’ get transferred to the 5b/c service attending immediately, two or three days later, or never. When they arrive from 5e or 6e, they are discharged from the e5 or e6 database, and entered into the 5b database.

Pat_ID redirects here because the main office uses the term Serial Number for this.
The Pat_ID / Serial number is consecutive number to identify a ward/unit admission. It is unique per patient ward/unit admission, but not across our data (see D_ID).
- IMPORTANT: on any laptop, a serial number used must be unique.
Collection Instruction
see Adding a patient
The number is assigned automatically, see Facilitated Management of Serial numbers.
If you need to change this number after initially entering the patient you need to do this in the Patient List.
Minimal Data Set
This entry is part of the Minimal Data Set. Special collection instructions apply, see that page for more info.
Data Integrity Checks (automatic list)
App | Status | |

Query check minimal data set incomplete | CCMDB.accdb | implemented |
Special-Use Serial Numbers
- Serial numbers <10 are used as test data.
- Serial numbers 111 to 140 were used for the Peer Audit.
- a "new" Laptop identifier starts at Serial number 150. (If this changes, Facilitated Management of Serial numbers will need to change as well)
Serial Number Reuse
A serial number in CCMDB.accdb should not be re-used. TISS and sending to L_PHI will run into problems when these numbers are re-used. If serial number is changed Statistician has added hassle trying to figure out which patient data belongs to.
Legacy HSC_ICU Serial number distribution
- MICU and CCU share 1 - 50
- SICU 51-100
- IICU use SICU serial number if pt from SICU to IICU. Use MICU serial number if pt from MICU to IICU.
Start Date 1999
Stop Date: Changes much prior to May 26, 2014 or earlier
- MICU/CCU/IICU-M Serial number: 1-50 (start at study 25145) as reported by Gail Hall--Nov 14.14
- SICU/IICU-S Serial number: 51-100 (no changes) p:Joyce Peterson no longer follow as reported Nov 7.14
EMIP
Vic and Grace patients with location <hosp>_EMIP use their own serial number series.
STB and HSC have letter postfixes for the EMIPs so each laptop uses own serial sequence.
