| "Black Blobbing" is the filling in of circles on the TISS form completely with a black marker. It is a mandatory quality assurance that the collectors '''must''' do. '''No colored pens.'''

|
| This is done by the data collector on the FIRST 10 DAYS of TISS. (will change with TISS28{{discussion}}) Purpose is to quality check the the forms, and secondly to make sure form bubbles on are filled in clearly and cleaning.

| The scanning program [[Teleform]] will not detect circles that are not filled completely with a sufficiently '''dark marker'''. Since it is impossible to control how bedside staff fill out the form, or for data collectors to gauge accurately what the scanner will be able to recognize, the has mandated that all TISS forms must have their filled circles “black blobbed” fully with a marker prior to handing in for scanning.

| == Is this necessary ==
| |
| Fred, from your work in setting up the new TISS28 form, do you think this is necessary as a rule, or is it enough if especially faint forms are "blobbed"? Might be able to save some time here? Ttenbergen 18:21, 2012 November 8 (EST)

| *this is a big workload for collectors because for TISS28 it will be for entire LOS to black blobb every day of TISS. I want them to stop doing it for TISS28, if staff use Dark HB pencil, don't need to reblob ever circle. Reason this was started because scanner was having problem picking up anemic marks. | | Before April 4,2013 the following rule applied: |
| | Before TISS is submitted for processing, completed forms should be checked for the quality of the marks. Very faint or incomplete marks should be fixed before submitting. |
