#I have a question about patients who have probable perforated viscous and go to surgery for lap & repair, become hypotensive intra-op or post-op. They are usually given antibiotics on spec and may have negative post-op blood cultures or no blood culture sent since the bug is assumed from spillage of gut contents. Do we enter the time of the pre-op antibiotic in the audit data?
#In another situation, if the patient had another infection pre- the shock state & antibiotics are given with again a negative blood culture, so no change in antibiotic is made - do we use the time of the antibiotics given for the first infection? --[[User:Jpeterson|Jpeterson]] 10:33, 8 December 2009 (CST)
*The time of antibiotics is the date and time antibiotics are given for sepsis… (this may occur prior to the development of shock or after.). If the person '''then goes into septic shock''' and '''the antibiotics are not changed'''''' the time remains at the time/date of original antibiotic coverage'''. IF the antibiotics are changed in response to the new shock state then the time of Antibiotics is the date/time that the NEW antibiotics were given.
*For both of these cases the date/time of original antibiotics were given would be the time of antibiotics as it does not appear the antibiotics were changed following the development of shock.--Kendiss Olafson. Dec 9.0956 AM.
