*If a pt is clearly BLEEDING from somewhere, the bleeding source is the code you would use. ie GI bleed or post op bleed or hemorrhagic shock, etc. In this case you do '''NOT''' use the anemia codes as it is clearly evident why they may require a blood transfusion. | ||

***Thanks for this clarification Laura. I know that at the Vic 'other hemolitic' has been used in the past for coding blood transfusions not due to active bleeding. How does this impact the data collected in the past? (JKublick, 17 feb, 2012, the Vic would like to know) | ***Thanks for this clarification Laura. *Because of inconsistent coding for anemia's when anyone asks for data related to anemia in our database, we would provide them with a list of patient coded with anemia and it will be up to the researcher to audit the chart to look deeper for actual cause. Will have to check with ICU10 if we will still be as detailed or have a more broad category for anemia.[[User:TOstryzniuk|Trish Ostryzniuk]] 18:20, 2012 March 13 (CDT) | *Because of inconsistent coding for anemia's when anyone asks for data related to anemia in our database, we would provide them with a list of patient coded with anemia and it will be up to the researcher to audit the chart to look deeper for actual cause.
