GI Scopes

According to the gospel of CCI Collection#Related Imaging, Diagnostic and Therapeutic procedures performed at the same time, all diagnostic and therapeutic actions completed during the scope will be coded.

There are generally five CCI Collections that can occur in a GI Scope:

• • Inspection, Exploration (endoscopic)
  • Biopsy (endoscopic)
  • Excision, Resection (for polyp removal)
  • Control of Bleeding (for treating actively bleeding vessels)

Combine one of the above codes with the deepest area that was reached:

• the deepest that was reached of the following
  • (T) Esophagus/(D) Esophagus
  • (T) Stomach, Pylorus/(D) Stomach or Pylorus
  • (T) Small Intestine/(D) Small Intestine

Exceptions:

• If a repair of a vessel that is not currently bleeding use:
  • Occlusion + Blood Vessels, NOS (T)
