coding relative to COPD Acute Exacerbation

  • When a patient has chronic asthma and comes in with an exacerbation of this (not status asthmaticus) you can use COPD Acute Exacerbation because chronic asthma is considered one of the Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases. This is according to ICD 9, see quote in COPD Acute Exacerbation.
    • Template:Discussion are you suggesting to code this instead of or in addition to? Ttenbergen 12:15, 2016 February 17 (CST)

Suggestion is to use this code if the ptBold text does not have status asthmaticus but has a chronic asthma exacerbation. --LKolesar 13:40, 2016 February 17 (CST)
