Code as follows:
* Pre acute living situation field - code "Chronic Care Facility"
* Pre-admit Inpatient Institution - code "NA / not applicable"  if direct, or as applicable if indirect

*I am unclear with these instructions, if indirect code as applicable?  if we are using chronic care facility, like we do for Riverview and Deer Lodge (DLC), we have Riverview as an option for if they arrive as a direct or indirect, but now Deer Lodge (DLC) and Selkirk mental health are not an option, shouldn't we be treating these all the same?  There is a question on the Chronic Health Facility    Lisa Kaita 17:50, 16 June 2025 (CDT)
** I agree we should treat them the same. Also, there is now Eden Mental Health Centre in Winkler, which is listed together with Selkirk on the ; we should likely treat it the same as well. * Would Previous Service be "psych" or "not applicable" for direct admits from Selkirk Mental Health Centre? Thanks!
** From the info in Previous Service I would think that if the pt was admitted there then Psych, but if an ambulatory pt there then Not Applicable. I will flag the question for Julie and Lisa as well to be sure we are on the same page. Ttenbergen 09:43, 2022 March 2 (CST)
**I would agree based on what is on the wiki previous servicepsych, however should we treat this as a chronic health facility? or as selkirk_ward? to be consistent with all of our other facilities ie. admission from Pscyh ward at VGH,SBGH or HSC would be site_ward
*** That would be about Boarding Loc, though, right, not Previous Service? Ttenbergen 11:26, 2022 March 2 (CST)
****Selkirk Hospital and Selkirk Mental Health Centre are two different facilities; so if selkirk ward was entered as a preadmit entry, then it would appear the patient originated from Selkirk Hospital not Selkirk Mental Health Centre; is this distinction required?
**** yes you are right Pam, thanks for pointing that out, I incorrectly, think of them as the same facility.  I still think psych should be the previous service.
***** If the previous service entry is psych-could this be included in the above collection instructions? Thanks!
* I think it will be clearer if we add Selkirk Mental Health Centre as a separate item,  just like St Amant. For direct admit Previous Service be "psych". The Previous Location and Dispo  be  "Selkirk Mental Health Centre". Pre-admit Inpatient Institution - code "NA / not applicable".  Pre acute living situation field - code "Chronic Care Facility" --JMojica 11:22, 2022 March 7 (CST)
** Do we actually want to treat this place specific at all? We wouldn't do so for other Chronic Health Facilitys. And, how do we deal with psych units located at hospitals? We have ward designations at HSC, but to other hospitals have these, and how do we deal with those?  Ttenbergen 10:40, 2022 March 9 (CST)
* We do have all the other chronic health facilities as an item in the dropdown, so it makes sense to do so for selkirk mental health center as well.  This is a separate institution from selkirk general hospital.  IF a patient were to come from a psych ward at selkirk general hospital (if they have a psych ward) then we would treat it as selkirk_ward, just like any other psych admission SBGH, HSC or VGH Lisa Kaita 13:03, 2022 April 13 (CDT)
** I have added "Selkirk Mental Health Centre" as a dropdown to s_dispo table. However, this question originally started out about the previous service - is that addressed by all this or is there still a question? Ttenbergen 10:40, 2022 April 21 (CDT)
*** Since  Pre-admit Inpatient Institution is coded "NA / not applicable" for all chronic care facilities, then I suggest the previous service should be NA / not applicable as well for consistency.  Pamela Piche 11:04, 2022 April 21 (CDT)
**** Consistency with what, though? It's kind of a unique situation. And Julie earlier suggested Psych. In any case, you are right that we should be clear and consistent about it. Pulling in Julie. Ttenbergen 11:29, 2022 April 21 (CDT)
***** Exactly, hence the original question. Consider what previous service is to be entered for direct admits from St. Amant or Deer Lodge chronic care, would these entries be NA / not applicable or something different like family medicine? Pamela Piche 11:35, 2022 April 21 (CDT)
****** OK, to be consistent use NA / not applicable . --JMojica 11:38, 2022 April 21 (CDT)}}
