International Students
What do we enter for patients that are here from another country on a student VISA? These patients have a MB PHIN, but if I enter their PHIN, then I would have to enter their province as MB, and give their local postal code.Mlagadi 09:57, 2017 May 3 (CDT)
If they have an address in the Province, enter it, otherwise treat them as #Out-of-Country patients.
* Hey Michele, I had a quick look at a Manitoba Government website, international students that are here for 6 months or longer are eligible for health coverage under the province, so I would put down the postal code for their current residence here in Manitoba.  Had a discussion amongst Lois, Laura, Elaine and myself and came up with this! I know it says permanently resides above but this seems to make the most sense, any other thoughts? Lisa Kaita 14:02, 2017 May 3 (CDT)

The most common use for postal codes is for researchers to link to Stats Canada for economic status and to for us to get a distribution of patients by MB RHAs outside of Winnipeg. It’s also a cross-check on Province for out-of-province patients. - Randy Martens - Sept 11.15.
Postal Codes are used group patients geographically for purposes such as:

Data Integrity Check List
Main office weekly data check.  data vetting process.
Uses query NDC_Bad_Postal_Code and table Postal_Code_Master.

table Postal_Code_Master
Postal Code Master table
This is the table that postal codes get checked again. It includes the MB RHA that a postal code is affiliated with.
For the MB component we imported a version provided by Marc Silva to Julie Mojica 2016-09-08.
The country-wide component was based on an older table I think we go it from Stats Can.
