ICU Var 2 Currently there are two codes that are applicable to this slot:

  • BRR - tag used for Cardiac arrest protocol
  • MAP - tag used to track those patient with an MI who have been put on the MI care map. Started November 2004.

BRR in ICU

  • Tags patients who had the Cardiac Arrest Cooling Protocol applied in the ICU.
  • The cardiac arrest cooling protocol's target is to lower body temperature to the 32-34 C degree range.
  • Code is not to be applied when a cooling protocol is used to normalize temperature for non-arrested patients.

Possible Value: BRR if the protocol was applied.

MAP

ICU Var 2 is used to tag those patients that are placed on the Acute MI care map.

Possible Value: MAP if the protocol was applied

NOTE:

  • MAP code is not exclusive for the CCU unit at STB and HSC. It is applicable to all ICU patient who have had an acute MI.
  • If a patient has both a Cardiac arrest and an acute MI and is placed on both the cooling protocol(BRR) and the acute MI care map (MAP), the preference is to use the BRR code in ICU Var 2 instead of the MAP code.
