Definition
Urosepsis -Septicemia/Bacteremia/Fungemia resulting from urinary tract infection.
- Urosepsis is a term used imprecisely to denote infection ranging from urinary tract infection to generalized sepsis which may result from such infection.
- Yes it seems that Doc's use the DX of urosepsis when referring either a localized bladder infection, an UTI or kidney infection.
- If DIAGNOSIS is UROSEPSIS then code as follows:
- If localized bladder infection only and not systemic (in blood) code:
- 51 Cystitis (Bladder Infection) - subcode with applicable pathogen
- If bladder infection & gone into bloodstream, (which is urosepsis) then code:
- 46 Septicemia/Bacteremia/Fungemia- subcode with applicable pathogen
- 51 Cystitis (Bladder Infection) - subcode with applicable pathogen
- If kidney infection & gone into bloodstream, code:
- 46 Septicemia/Bacteremia/Fungemia- subcode with applicable pathogen
- 54 or 55 Pyelonephritis (Kidney Infection/Abcess)
