Consider all foot ulcers to be infected
Counter to the category these are in, per Dr Garland Sep 17, 2015 all diabetic foot ulcers are considered to be infected. Code Soft Tissue Infection (includes Cellulitis) if present.
When to use the generic dx
Use the generic entry when one of the following is true:
- the wound was not assessed
- there was insufficient info in the chart to determine stage
When to use the Unstageable dx
Wound bed can't be seen so true stage can't be determined.
Date Stages implemented
- 2006-Feb-22: for stages 1-4
- 2017-Aug-24: for unstageable
