Myelitis vs Myelopathy - info from that article info moved here

  • we did not have this DX in the old code. (inflammation of the spinal cord)
  • If a patient has a diagnosis of myelitis:
    • If the localization is cervical spinal cord, then use: Cervical Myelopathy which is spinal cord compression (59909)
    • If not known to be cervical, then use: Neurologic Other Problem - OTHER PROBLEMS (59990)

NOTE: New ICD10 codes for Myelitis, refer to Encephalitis, meningoencephalitis, myelitis, encephalomyelitis, noninfectious

Context

As of 2016-11 there is an outbreak in the States with kids with this myelitis and they don’t know what causes it. We have had at least one pt at the Vic with this. We don't have a single DX code for this.

Discussion with Allan Garland on how to code this Nov 21.16 brought instructions above.
