Notes:Use this DX code only if hypotension is "severe and significant" enough to be treated with volume and or inotropes Do not use this DX code together with any of the other shock or post op low BP codes we already use.
- For a list of specific "shock" diagnosis codes we use go to: Category Shock
- I'm wondering how people are coding orthostatic hypotension? It seems some what common in the elderly causing falls and is sometimes treated with a steroid type of drug? Hypotension NYD is one option and peripheral neuropathy (the autonomic affects) is another possible code to use. What are you doing? (Judy)
- some of the responses I received were: orthostatic hypotension is coded as hypotnesion NYD or as syncope (Judy)
- don't code orthostatic hypotension. We are not tracking this symptom. Trish Ostryzniuk 15:50, 2012 June 18 (CDT)
- some of the responses I received were: orthostatic hypotension is coded as hypotnesion NYD or as syncope (Judy)
- Note From Dr. Kumar: I would not routinely code “distributive” shock as septic shock. I would code as “other” shock if we have such a code, otherwise use Hypotension NYD (not due to shock or post op).Trish Ostryzniuk 18:21, 2012 June 11 (CDT)
