  • A trauma code with Post OP means surgery was done for the specific organ injured that it is coded with. It does not mean that patient is merely post op.
  • A trauma code with Non Post OP means no surgery done for the specific organ that is injured that it is coded with.

Example: Trauma: SAH-head, leg fracture, abdomen uncomplicated. Went to OR to fix leg frature and nothing else. Coding would be as follows:

  1. 651-1 # /amp & vascular – post op
  2. 647-1 SAH NON post op craniotomy
  3. 625-1 ADB uncomplicated – NON post op

  • RE: POST OP and NON POST OP Craniotomy: I don’t understand how adding “craniotomy” would make anything clearer there. I mean, post-op nicely tells you “and no related OP”, so why specify? The way it looks now almost makes it look like the pt _did_ have a craniotomy even though it says non-post-op.
    • Data collector, someone has pointed out that there may be some misinterpretation when using trauma codes with POST OP and NON POST op. How do each of you interpret NON POST OP craniotomy & POST OP Craniotomy?Trish Ostryzniuk 15:19, 2012 July 25 (CDT)
