Var 2 - Discharge-to Ward
ICU Var 2 Currently there are two codes that are applicable to this slot:
- [| BRR] - tag used for Cardiac arrest protocol.
- Started June 2004. Consistent application of code didn't start at all sites until about Aug 2004?
- MAP - tag used to track those patient with an MI who have been put on the MI Care Map.
- started November 2004.
NOTE:
- OBS - tag for CON patient in ER telemetry, also here. Should only be in ICU Var 1. Will need to fix up in S-tables. The 4 patients that have been tagged in Variable slot 2 with OBS have had this code moved to ICU var 1 in master database.TOstryzniuk 16:39, 23 July 2008 (CDT)
BRR in ICU
- ICU Var 2 tags patients who have had the Cardiac Arrest Cooling Protocol applied in the ICU at admission or if arrest occurs as a complication after ICU admission.
- The cardiac arrest cooling protocol's target is to lower body temperature to the 32-34 C degree range.
- Code is not to be applied when a cooling protocol is used to normalize temperature for non-arrested patients.
Possible Value: BRR if the protocol was applied.

MAP
ICU Var 2 is used to tag those patients that are placed on the Acute MI care map.
Possible Value: MAP if the protocol was applied
NOTE:
- MAP code is not exclusive for the CCU unit at STB and HSC. It is applicable to all ICU patient who have had an acute MI.
- If a patient has both a Cardiac arrest and an acute MI and is placed on both the cooling protocol(BRR) and the acute MI care map (MAP), the preference is to use the BRR code in ICU Var 2 instead of the MAP code.

Discussion
- CCU MAP in this variable is likely unnecessary as all patient who have an acute MI are automatically put on the acute MI care map.--LKolesar 11:34, 18 June 2008 (CDT)
- in 2004/05 when MI care MAP was first introduced, Betty Lou Rock wanted to track if it was being applied at all sites consistently. It has been discussed that at some sites, the MI care map is not applied consistently. Need to follow this up with the Database Steering Committee and see if they would like us to stop tagging MAP and relegate the code to the legacy category.
