Hypothermia

This OLD DX code was used specifically for hypothermia that was related to trauma such as, exposure to a chronic extreme cold environment such as winter or acute, such as a fall into cold water.

• this code is NOT applicable to hypothermia related to other medical causes such as, hypothyroidism, septic shock, drugs or artificial cooling done for therapeutic reasons. i.e. it is not equivalent to new code Hypothermia, not due to low environmental temperature/exposure.
