GI Scopes: Difference between revisions

According to the gospel of CCI Collection#Related Imaging, Diagnostic and Therapeutic procedures performed at the same time, all diagnostic and therapeutic actions completed during the scope will be coded.

There are generally four CCI Collections that can occur in a GI Scope:
- Inspection, Exploration (endoscopic)
- Biopsy (endoscopic)
- Excision, Resection (for polyp removal)
- Control of Bleeding (for treating actively bleeding vessels)

Combine one of the above codes with the deepest area that was reached:

Exceptions:

If a repair of a vessel that is not currently bleeding use Occlusion + the occluded vessel
- For an upper esophageal vessel, code Occlusion + (T) Other Vessels of Head, Neck, Spine, NOS
- For a lower esophageal vessel, code Occlusion + (T) Thoracic Vessels, NOS
- For all other GI tract vessel repairs, use Occlusion + (T) Blood Vessels, NOS

For EUS (endoscopic ultrasound), use:
