The Critical Care database counts the laboratory tests listed at S AllLabsTable for every patient for their entire LOS in a unit.

HSC Data Collectors only count a "subset" of S ALLabsTable because some of the lab test are dwonlaoded and imported directly in master TMSX Database.

Lab Collection Process

  • For every ICU patient,
    • for every qualifying laboratory test
      • locate the specific lab, enter the number of times the test was performed
      • if a culture is taken but the sample was inadequate to produce a result, the culture is still counted under lab counts
      • for platelets, one bag hung as indicated on the TISS is equal to 5 platelet units in the lab count.
    • if a patient has no labs by the end of their stay, enter a date and leave zeros under all the labs
