*Diagnosis of osteomyelitis is often based on radiological results showing a lytic center with a ring of sclerosis. Culture of material taken from a bone biopsy is needed to identify the specific pathogen; alternative sampling methods such as needle puncture or surface swabs are easier to perform, but do not produce reliable results. I remember talking about this with Trish however I can't find it on the wiki. A surface skin swab doesn't give you an accurate result for a pathogen causing osteomyelitis. Therefore if the diagnosis is based on radiologic evidence and no bone culture is performed the pathogen would be "no culture sent".
*Are we consistently coding this way?

Notes:
  • Diagnosis of osteomyelitis is often based on radiological results showing a lytic center with a ring of sclerosis.
  • Are we consistently coding this way?
