Palliative care is
- given to a person with progressive, advanced underlying chronic disease with little or no prospect of cure
- whose death is apparent however is not immediately imminent
- for whom the primary goal is to maintain quality of life.
Treatment is directed towards relieving suffering by managing underlying disease related symptoms.
A patient’s whose death is immediately imminent should be not coded as Palliative care.
