Med Var 1 is used track the specific ward a patient was admitted from within the same center. If a patient is admitted from a ward outside your hospital, and you know the ward they came from, please code, otherwise leave Var 1 blank.

Possible values are listed in the dropdown box in the CCMDB.mdb, which is driven by the S varOptions table.

The statistician uses this variable to detect patients with a continuous hospital stay.

If the specific ward you are admitting from is not available on this list use "OTH". Please also note down the ward that was missing on this page.

Data Structure

Template:CCMDB Data Integrity Checks

Any patient who is admitted to a medicine ward from a medicine ward at the same hospital must have Var 1 entered.

Can't enter wards outside your hospital

Template:Discussion Collectors, we are planning to start limiting Var1/2 so that you can only use "OTH" for hospitals other than your own, and you have to enter a specific location for your hospital. When we do this, if the list of options in Var1/2 is incomplete for your location, you would not be able to complete that patient. Please have a look at your options and ensure you have all you need. If you don't, please add the additional entries you need to the list below.

  • VIC wards are all listed*
  • STB: should include the following for medicine ccmdb: 2B,3A,3B,CR4,4AS,4AW,4B,4E,5B, 5E,5ACM,6AS, 6AW,6E,7AS, 7AW, 8A, McEwen (some are already on the list). --LKolesar 07:35, 2014 July 29 (CDT)
    • Do you mean that we will now need to enter a var 1/2 for patients that are admitted from SOGH ward (for example) or discharged to same? Normally we do not do this at HSC. We only enter HSC wards in var 1/2. The list for HSC appears to be complete.--CMarks 07:57, 2014 July 29 (CDT)

context

  • Does this mean that OTH (instead of blank) is only used when coming from or going to ANOTHER hospital but when on SAME hospital, OTH will not be an option, correct? JMojica 09:52, 2014 February 24 (CST)
    • Oth is still listed as an option to be entered at same hospital. The checks before sending do not complain about it. Are we confident that we have a complete list of options at "own" hospital so collectors would never need to enter as "other"? Ttenbergen 23:13, 2014 May 19 (CDT)
      • we won't know if we have the complete list at own hospital unless the data collectors entered more as new entry instead of 'OTH'. The problem with just OTH is the uncertainty of linking the correct transfers. JMojica 10:23, 2014 May 20 (CDT)
