Risk of Death Calculation for APACHE II

This calculation is used to compute the predicted risk of hospital death for groups of acutely ill patients for APACHE II.
Our Database Diagnosis Codes are mapped to APACHE via APACHE Comorbidities in ICD10 codes but we do not use this model to predict risk of hospital death in our Regional Stat Reports because we don't have Hospital mortality data available to us.
- To compute the risk (R) of hospital death for each individual patient we use the following formula:
- Ln(R/l-R)=3.517+(APACHE II score x 0.146) + (0.603, only if post emergency surgery) + (APACHE Comorbidities in ICD10 codes weight)
- Interpretation:
- -ve coefficient = good prognosis
- +ve coefficient = bad prognosis
