- (alpha-hemolytic strep other than Enterococcus or S. pneumoniae)
Streptococcus Viridans: is a large heterogeneous group of mostly alpha-hemolytic streptococci. They colonize the respiratory tract at birth and generally have a low degree of pathogenicity. This group of species includes:
- Streptococcus MITIS
- Streptococcus mutans [1]
- Streptococcus ORALIS
- Streptococcus SANGUIS
- Streptococcus SOBRINUS
- Streptococcus milleri (according to the European system)
- also known as Streptococcus anginosus[2] (according to the Lancefield classification system)
- there was a question whether to inlcude non-hemolytic Streptococcus
- the full pathogen name as coded is "Strep viridans (alpha-hemolytic strep other than Enterococcus or S. pneumoniae)" which sounds to me to not indlude non-hemolytic strains... collectors? Ttenbergen 12:06, 2014 September 10 (CDT) ++discussion++
