Using RSS to inform occasional users of our data of definition changes

From CCMDB Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

This page contains instructions on how to generate an RSS link for pages on this wiki, and how to set these up in Outlook. This allows an occasional user of our data to be notified of any changes on wiki pages pertaining to their use, without having to monitor recent changes. We should encourage people who rely on our data to set up feeds so they know when our definitions change.

Generating an RSS link

To generate an RSS link for a page's history page, add &action=history&feed=rss to the end of the URL. For example, for this page the link would be

https://ccmdb.kuality.ca/index.php?title=Using_RSS_to_inform_occasional_users_of_our_data_of_definition_changes&action=history&feed=rss

This RSS feed will show the diff of any edit to a page, which includes the changed content with some context.

Setting up an RSS feed in Outlook

RSS feeds can be used by various tools, but the most easily available one in the Shared Health setting is MS Outlook. To setup an RSS Feed in Outlook, right-click on "RSS Feeds" in the navigation panel, then "Add a new RSS feed...". Paste the URL you generated above and click "Add".
